George Tiller shot on way to church

The news is hopping today about the killing of late-term abortion provider, Dr. George Tiller who was shot as he walked into services at his Kansas church. A controversial symbol in the fiery war over abortion, Tiller had already been the subject of protests by abortion opponents for a number of years. In 1986 a bomb caused substantial damage to his clinic, and in 1993 he was the victim of an assault by an assailant who shot him in both arms.

I’m not writing about his death to just to get my views out on the issue of abortion. I’m pro-life, and was taught to be by a very conservation mother. Abortion is a lightning rod issue, extremely difficult to defuse, and some supporters on both sides of the fence have taken a passionate, sometimes-irrational stance. What bothers me is any acts of violence are unequivocally wrong no matter what you believe. And to murder a fellow human being, because that person doesn’t conform to your system of beliefs makes me wonder how far down the slippery slope America is headed.

I wasn’t a President Bush fan, didn’t vote for him, but wanted him to do well for the sake of the country so that all Americans thrived. But go onto some of the political websites, and what you’ll read is shocking. On the left sites, Bush and Cheney are so hated ssome of the community either wants them to suffer horrible diseases, or to be tried and executed for starting the wars. The same can be said of right leaning websites where God and religion mean everything, but comments encouraging violence against innocent people, or hoping for President Obama’s failure are regularly received. It’s a sorry state of the union.
