Remember Obama’s announcement Monday that insurance companies were going to cut the rate of health care spending? It was all over the news:

That didn’t take long. One-minute the industry leaders ‘Promise’ to hold down health care costs to “only” 4.7 percent annually, drawing praise from the Obama Administration. The next minute they’re backtracking their asses off. Clearly the voluntary cost-cutting promise is like you or I grabbing wind. It’s not happening. I’ve been lucky. For most of my life I’ve been pretty healthy. I’ve also been covered by an insurance plan, which either completely paid for all my medical expenses, or at least had reasonable co-pay. This doesn’t mean I haven’t been paying attention. Medical costs are out of control. Recently I did my annual physical. The results, cost of my tests and other examinations where mailed directly to me. I was floored at how expensive theses things were, and immediately thought about the burden those without health insurance are under. How do you decide between feeding your family versus going to the doctor? When you feel something is just not right with you, do you defer a visit to the hospital, because if you do your car note won’t get paid? As health care reform drags on so many will undoubtedly suffer. And you can bitch it’s their fault all you want. Eventually the poor and disadvantaged without medical insurance cost us all no matter what you think. The bottom line is we’ve got this monstrosity of an industry on our hands that’s largely self-regulated, and through tons of lobbyists will do anything to keep its death grip on trillions of dollars of business. So while Americans continue to pay a crap load of money to get a half assed health care system profiteers will continue to rob us blind.
